Just stopped in here. Really knowledgeable. Good people going to be using this company again over the next year
Recently had these guys how to assess our deck. They were definitely not high pressure and very knowledgeable on the situation that we were experiencing. We were informed that replacement was recommended based off of the overall condition on the framing. Essentially it rotted out pretty bad. We had gotten a couple of estimates and they fell right into the middle on price The deck was about 500 square feet and they replaced it from ground up. I will say that for the money we spent we got a beautiful new deck with zero hiccups the job in total took four days and we are absolutely in love with the results.
Recently had some top tier insulation work done by Best Home Performance and their team we had a relatively difficult new construction project where we needed to meet code in Connecticut and we did not want to use spray foam they were able to a hybrid system of insulation that fit our needs at a lower cost than spray foam insulation would have been. The system that their team developed exceeded building code by about 25 percent needless to say We were very pleased with the work that they did and for the quality and professionalism of the job the price was more than fair in my opinion. I would not hesitate to reuse or recommend best home performance to anybody after experiencing the work they delivered on my property
Highly qualified specialist! Quickly resolved all my heating problems (oil burner). Highly recommend!
I had a major renovation and expansion that adds 1000 square feet of living space. Best Home expertly advised on options, offered very competitive pricing and installed fast in 3 days. The team was respectful, worked hard and were very pleasant to have in my home! Very well done I wish I had more stars to give!!!
HVAC Installation & Service performance guide for Colchester, Connecticut
Climate averages are state-level reference values, not city-specific measurements.
Climate impact in Colchester, Connecticut
Colchester, Connecticut sits in a Cold climate zone with average summer highs near 80°F and winter lows near18°F. Those swings load the evaporator coil, blower motor, refrigerant lines, and condensate drain. Keep a clean MERV filter to protect the compressor.
Extended heating cycles strain heat exchangers and blower motors. Inspect ignition systems and combustion safety annually.
Most common local breakdowns
Heat exchanger stress and ignition issues in gas furnaces during long winters.
Frozen coils caused by restricted airflow and dirty MERV filters.
Low airflow from dirty MERV filters or a weak blower motor causes ice. Ask for airflow and refrigerant superheat checks.
Equipment recommendation
A cold-climate heat pump or high-AFUE furnace with SEER2 15+ AC keeps both heating and cooling efficient across seasons. Seal ductwork and schedule coil cleaning to protect the heat exchanger, capacitor, and compressor.
Furnace + AC setups need annual heat exchanger inspection, verified combustion, and balanced blower airflow.
Local code and housing notes
Ask contractors about Connecticut energy code compliance and permits. Older homes often benefit from ductless mini-splits to reduce line-set length and improve zone control.
Mechanical permit for system replacement and condenser swaps.
Post-install inspection covering refrigerant line pressure and condensate drain routing.
Load calculation proof to avoid short-cycling compressors.
Airflow verification (blower motor speed + static pressure).
Always confirm a contractor's license and insurance before hiring.
