Why Henderson's arid weather breaks HVAC systems
In Henderson, summer highs average 98°F. That strains compressors, refrigerant lines, and condensate drains. Common local issue: capacitor wear due to heat soak. Recommended: systems rated SEER2 18+ for this climate.

Needed whole house A/C replaced. Found the right choice in Wright Choice. Bought house with 20+ year old air conditioner which finally died. I contacted 4 companies for quotes. 3 came to house to look at the situation and one asked me to send photos. So now I'm down to 3. One from a big local firm wanted to measure every room in the house even though I told him the size we had did a good job cooling before it died. It was clear he was looking to up-sell so now I'm down to 2. The remaining 2 firms had almost identical quotes. So since price wasn't part of the consideration we were looking for service and support. It came down to a big local company vs a very close-by family business. Wright Choice was our choice. The owner is the person we worked with, not a salesman. Karl Wright was attentive to our needs, got the equipment installed quickly and made good recommendations. I feel very comfortable recommending Wright Choice if you are looking for heating or air conditioning equipment or service.
Carl came over the day I called to check on the issue with the fan motor. He figured out it was the Capacitor and replaced it on the spot. Very honest guy. Will use him again next time I need any service.
Carl replaced our Central Air unit.He was reasonably priced. The bonus is he is a super nice guy. Thanks Carl and Wright choice for doing an amazing job!.
We have a 5 year old oil burning furnace. We lost hot water one day and I called around looking for a reputable, but reasonable company to fix it, and fast!! After calling a few different companies, I tried Wright-Choice. I spoke with Carl and he asked me a couple of questions about our problem. I could tell that he knew what he was talking about. He arrived, was very professional, and knowledgable about our furnace, had the part, and repaired it before we ate supper. Ended up being a mixing valve, and very reasonable at that. I did not feel taken advantage of, so we scheduled a time for him to return to clean our unit which we wanted to have done because it had only been cleaned once. He returned as promised, cleaned the unit and explained about our system up, and said that an annual cleaning was sufficient, usually best done before the cold season. He said that since he had just done it (June), we could wait until next winter. He also took the time to look at our 20 yr old central air unit which we will have him return, to simply add Freon to. Highly recommended. We will hire him from now on. Also does installations
Wright diagnosed and serviced a furnace issue for me. He was knowledgeable, nice, and was very fair with pricing. After calling around to multiple well reviewed companies for bids, I'm confident I made the Wright Choice. Also, he came late in the day when others woudn't. Highly recommended
HVAC Installation & Service performance guide for Henderson, Nevada
Climate averages are state-level reference values, not city-specific measurements.
Climate impact in Henderson, Nevada
Henderson, Nevada sits in a Hot-Dry climate zone with average summer highs near 98°F and winter lows near35°F. Those swings load the evaporator coil, blower motor, refrigerant lines, and condensate drain. Keep a clean MERV filter to protect the compressor.
Dust raises head pressure and overheats the compressor. Keep coils clean and replace MERV filters on schedule.
Most common local breakdowns
Capacitor and contactor failures from extreme condenser heat soak.
Outdoor coil and compressor efficiency loss from dust-loaded fins.
Low airflow from dirty MERV filters or a weak blower motor causes ice. Ask for airflow and refrigerant superheat checks.
Equipment recommendation
Choose a high-efficiency AC or heat pump with SEER2 17+ and robust filtration to keep the condenser and compressor clean in dusty conditions. Seal ductwork and schedule coil cleaning to protect the heat exchanger, capacitor, and compressor.
Heat pumps favor variable-speed compressors and tight refrigerant line sets to stabilize humidity control.
Local code and housing notes
Ask contractors about Nevada energy code compliance and permits. Older homes often benefit from ductless mini-splits to reduce line-set length and improve zone control.
Mechanical permit for system replacement and condenser swaps.
Post-install inspection covering refrigerant line pressure and condensate drain routing.
Load calculation proof to avoid short-cycling compressors.
Airflow verification (blower motor speed + static pressure).
Always confirm a contractor's license and insurance before hiring.
