Jason did an excellent job tuning our heating system. It was a bit difficult since the unit is over sized. He gave us instructions on how to best use the system so we get the most out of it. Thank you Jason
Last night I had a problem with my wall thermostat, it started acting wonky when I tried to lower the temperature. The screen went blank and then the furnace didn't stop for about 20 minutes. I called Bill Leary around 11 PM and the complaint was logged in their system. It was not an emergency, as the furnace stopped by itself and soon after the wall thermostat asked to be reset. Next morning the office followed up with a text / phone call as soon as they opened. Dan showed up on a short notice, changed the battery in the thermostat and checked the furnace. He was polite (brought his own foot covering to enter the apartment), he was efficient, explained things clearly and answered my rather clueless questions about the system. He also looked up an optional part (the UV light) and called me back within the hour. I highly recommend Dan.
James was very professional and pleasant to talk to. Would give him 100.
HVAC Installation & Service performance guide for Metuchen, New Jersey
Climate averages are state-level reference values, not city-specific measurements.
Climate impact in Metuchen, New Jersey
Metuchen, New Jersey sits in a Mixed-Humid climate zone with average summer highs near 85°F and winter lows near25°F. Those swings load the evaporator coil, blower motor, refrigerant lines, and condensate drain. Keep a clean MERV filter to protect the compressor.
Seasonal swings stress refrigerant lines and condenser capacity. Verify charge and airflow to protect the evaporator coil.
Most common local breakdowns
Evaporator coil icing from low airflow and clogged filters.
Capacitor failures on the condenser during peak cooling loads.
Low airflow from dirty MERV filters or a weak blower motor causes ice. Ask for airflow and refrigerant superheat checks.
Equipment recommendation
Balanced systems with SEER2 15+ and solid filtration protect the blower motor, coils, and compressor year-round. Seal ductwork and schedule coil cleaning to protect the heat exchanger, capacitor, and compressor.
Heat pumps favor variable-speed compressors and tight refrigerant line sets to stabilize humidity control.
Local code and housing notes
Ask contractors about New Jersey energy code compliance and permits. Older homes often benefit from ductless mini-splits to reduce line-set length and improve zone control.
Mechanical permit for system replacement and condenser swaps.
Post-install inspection covering refrigerant line pressure and condensate drain routing.
Load calculation proof to avoid short-cycling compressors.
Airflow verification (blower motor speed + static pressure).
Always confirm a contractor's license and insurance before hiring.
