Why Roland's mixed weather breaks HVAC systems

In Roland, summer highs average 85°F. That strains compressors, refrigerant lines, and condensate drains. Common local issue: compressor wear due to high runtime. Recommended: systems rated SEER2 15+ for this climate.

Went to turn the heat on for the first time this season and guess what it didn’t come on. I called Freeman after you were recommended by our builder. You all came the next day and had to order a part it came the next day. You came out that day and installed it and we have heat. The guy was super polite and did a great job.

Our old HVAC unit had completely gone out and we got ahold of Freeman Heat and Air for a new one. They were quick to figure out what we needed and were able to install it in a timely manner. The reason for the 3 stars is due to a couple of things. The techs who came to our house left quite a few nails scattered across our driveway, luckily my wife realized it and we got all of them before one of our kids or tire got it first. While in the attic for duct work, they cut our internet cable (Which isn't that big of a deal, accidents happen and the owner was very kind and paid for it). We also were told the new unit doesn't need a filter, which we were confused about but went with it until we were having heat problems then we checked the unit and saw we do need a 20x20 filter so its been running for a couple of months without it even though the techs said we didn't need one. So no telling how much dirt and whatever else has been caught up in the brand new unit we've spent a ton of money on. Lastly, our heat wasn't working and when we turned it on it blew cold air and the outdoor unit wasn't running. They were going to have a tech out next day but said that it was fine and they just needed to get it ready for the cold weather, which I don't understand because its a new system it should already be ready to produce heat and cold air. It ended up really cold in the house so an HVAC friend of mine came and looked to see what was going on and noticed that the settings on the outdoor unit were messed up so he set it to factory reset and the heat began working after that. Overall very nice people but not completely satisfied with spending thousands of dollars for subpar service.

Freeman Heat and Air worked on the balancing between the heat pump and transition to gas heat when the temp dictated that transition. The technician, Brandon, did a very thorough job of it as it was not simple.

Tanner & Dolly are always ready to help me with my a/c. They are polite and knowledgeable. I called last week at 4:30 pm my a/c wasn’t working. Dolly was going to try to get a tech right away, I’m not used to that kind of service. I told her if somebody could come out tomorrow that would be great. Tanner called the next morning to say he’s on his way. The problem was a previous service company had used a cheap China part. Tanner had the USA made part(they only use parts made in the USA) he installed the new part and was on his way in about 30 minutes. I recommend Mountain Air Cooling & Heating .

HVAC Installation & Service performance guide for Roland, Oklahoma

Mixed-Humid zone
Summer avg 85°F
Winter avg 25°F

Climate averages are state-level reference values, not city-specific measurements.

Climate impact in Roland, Oklahoma

Roland, Oklahoma sits in a Mixed-Humid climate zone with average summer highs near 85°F and winter lows near25°F. Those swings load the evaporator coil, blower motor, refrigerant lines, and condensate drain. Keep a clean MERV filter to protect the compressor.

Seasonal swings stress refrigerant lines and condenser capacity. Verify charge and airflow to protect the evaporator coil.

Most common local breakdowns

  • Evaporator coil icing from low airflow and clogged filters.

  • Capacitor failures on the condenser during peak cooling loads.

Low airflow from dirty MERV filters or a weak blower motor causes ice. Ask for airflow and refrigerant superheat checks.

Equipment recommendation

Balanced systems with SEER2 15+ and solid filtration protect the blower motor, coils, and compressor year-round. Seal ductwork and schedule coil cleaning to protect the heat exchanger, capacitor, and compressor.

Heat pumps favor variable-speed compressors and tight refrigerant line sets to stabilize humidity control.

Local code and housing notes

Ask contractors about Oklahoma energy code compliance and permits. Older homes often benefit from ductless mini-splits to reduce line-set length and improve zone control.

  • Mechanical permit for system replacement and condenser swaps.

  • Post-install inspection covering refrigerant line pressure and condensate drain routing.

  • Load calculation proof to avoid short-cycling compressors.

  • Airflow verification (blower motor speed + static pressure).

Always confirm a contractor's license and insurance before hiring.
