Why Houston's humid weather breaks HVAC systems
In Houston, summer highs average 90°F. That strains compressors, refrigerant lines, and condensate drains. Common local issue: evaporator coil wear due to condensate buildup. Recommended: systems rated SEER2 17+ for this climate.
Houston's humidity regularly exceeds 70%. An oversized AC unit short-cycles before removing moisture effectively — correct Manual J load sizing prevents this.

Houston HVAC FAQ
Single-visit tune-ups in Houston average $150–$325 in 2026. Annual contracts covering two seasonal visits run $300–$500. Compare at least 3 quotes before committing.
Twice-yearly service is recommended for Houston's hot-humid climate: a spring AC tune-up before cooling season and a fall heating check before winter. Systems under 5 years may be fine with annual visits.
A complete tune-up covers thermostat calibration, refrigerant pressure check, blower motor and belt inspection, heat exchanger visual check, condensate drain flush, filter replacement, and electrical connection tightening.
For systems over 5 years old, maintenance contracts typically pay for themselves through early fault detection. Priority scheduling during peak season in Houston is an added benefit when demand surges and wait times can stretch days.

HVAC Repair & Maintenance reviews in Houston
Hear from Houston homeowners about their experience with local hvac repair & maintenance companies.
In July, Gabriel did work on my dryer duct system and installed a downdraft for my cooktop. The downdraft work was incomplete bc I Had to wait for a part to come in. But it was also not installed properly. I am also having an issue with the dryer vent system. I have been trying to contact Gabriel directly, there is no response to his number. I then tried to contact AURA services main number and their representative set up two different service calls to my home, but no one showed up. Now, she is not answering my calls. I have left multiple messages and sent an email, with no response. I strongly recommend NOT using this company. Take your hard earned money elsewhere. This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and unreachable.
Airflow improved dramatically after their duct cleaning—great work!
Gabrielle and his crew did a great job. They came on time they clean my vent. They clean the chimney and they clean the dryer vent. I’m very happy with the service. There was very professional.
We just had our ducts cleaned and also some mold treatment. These guys were very professional and did an awesome job. I would highly recommend them. Gabriel was so easy to work with and very informative about what they were doing and why it needed to be done. We would definitely use them again.
HVAC Repair & Maintenance performance guide for Houston, Texas
Climate averages are state-level reference values, not city-specific measurements.
Climate impact in Houston, Texas
Houston, Texas sits in a Hot-Humid climate zone with average summer highs near 90°F and winter lows near40°F. Those swings load the evaporator coil, blower motor, refrigerant lines, and condensate drain. Keep a clean MERV filter to protect the compressor.
High moisture accelerates coil biofilm and condensate drain clogs. Target stable airflow, clean evaporator coils, and verified dehumidification control.
Most common local breakdowns
Condensate drain clogs and evaporator coil biofilm from high indoor humidity.
Blower motor strain from long run times and high static pressure.
Low airflow from dirty MERV filters or a weak blower motor causes ice. Ask for airflow and refrigerant superheat checks.
Equipment recommendation
Prioritize variable-speed heat pumps with enhanced dehumidification and SEER2 16+ ratings to protect refrigerant lines and the evaporator coil. Seal ductwork and schedule coil cleaning to protect the heat exchanger, capacitor, and compressor.
Heat pumps favor variable-speed compressors and tight refrigerant line sets to stabilize humidity control.
Local code and housing notes
Ask contractors about Texas energy code compliance and permits. Older homes often benefit from ductless mini-splits to reduce line-set length and improve zone control.
Mechanical permit for system replacement and condenser swaps.
Post-install inspection covering refrigerant line pressure and condensate drain routing.
Load calculation proof to avoid short-cycling compressors.
Airflow verification (blower motor speed + static pressure).
Always confirm a contractor's license and insurance before hiring.
